1/28/11- Marc Chagall

This week I'm exploring Marc Chagall. I was drawn to him because of his painting called Der Spaziergang. I really enjoyed his use of color and abstract space in this painting. It draws me to it because it isn't an overly serious painting to me.

In Chagall's work he has a lot of biblical undertones, take he photo above- you could say that it reflected a bit of the creation of adam. It seems like a teensy bit of a strange stretch, but I can completely see how that would come into play.
Chagall expressed his faith through his art as he was Jewish. His influences were the Torah, his childhood, and war. Many of his paintings depicted circus scenes or scenes of two people possibly in love, but always some bit of trouble between them. People are drawn to his paintings because of the colors he used. He would make fabulous paintings while only using two or three colors by blending and coming from new perspectives.
He painted such works as "The fiddler" and "Bella with the white collar".
